Moving in Guide

The following is a brief guide of what you are required to do when moving into your new home:-

  • Take your meter readings as soon as you receive the keys for your new home;
  • Notify your electric and gas (if applicable) supplier to advise you are the new tenants so they can register your utilities account;
  • Advise North Lanarkshire Council, Council Tax that you are the new tenant and add your household to the electoral roll;
  • Contact North Lanarkshire Council to make a claim for housing benefit or council tax benefit (if applicable);
  • During the settling in visit ensure you know where your stop cock, fuse box and trip switch are located (contact your Maintenance Officer if you need help);
  • Arrange contents insurance for your personal and household items, we insure the buildings;
  • Contact the Post Office to re-direct your mail from your previous address (if required);
  • Arrange or amend your TV Licence;
  • Should you install a landline, please advise us of your number and we can update our records;
  • Remember to advise your doctor, dentist, bank, employer, school, DVLA etc of your new address.
