Ending Your Tenancy

What do I need to do?

If you decide to move out of your home and give up your tenancy with the Co-operative, you can download a Termination of Tenancy form (link soon) which you should complete, sign by all parties (if joint tenant) and return to the Co-operative. The day we receive this correctly signed form is the day from which your notice period will begin.  Only correctly competed forms will be accepted and processed.

You are required to give the Co-operative at least 28 days notice to end our tenancy.

What happens next?

We will contact you to arrange an appointment to carry out a full inspection of your property before you leave and we will inform you of any repair work you are required to complete.  At this stage we will also advise you when to return the keys of your property and confirm if any rent and other charges are due which should be paid in full before the end of your tenancy.

At the end of your tenancy, you must ensure the property is left empty, clean, in good repair and free from rubbish and household items, in accordance with your tenancy agreement (SST).

We recommend you take meter readings at the end of the tenancy, and you may wish to consider redirecting your mail.

Before You Leave Remember!

  • To leave the house in a clean and tidy condition as well as in good decorative order;
  • Remove all your belongings and household items including clearing any sheds/loft spaces and any rubbish/household items from your garden/communal area;
  • Should you have a garden, you ensure it is maintained;
  • Leave any wheeled bins empty;
  • Remove any fixtures and fittings you have installed without our permission and put right any damage caused;
  • Ensure all payments due to the Co-operative including rent have been paid in full;
  • Advise your electric and/or gas supplier of your final meter readings;
  • Notify North Lanarkshire Council, Council Tax Department and any benefits agencies (if applicable);
  • Provide us with a forwarding address;.
